Beds are where a property is won or lost

A perfectly mowed lawn next to weedy, washed-out beds still reads as neglected. Bed care is detail work: pulling weeds by the root instead of topping them, re-cutting the bed edge so the line between turf and mulch is sharp, cutting back spent or dead growth, and refreshing mulch where it has thinned. We handle it as a one-time reset or on a recurring schedule alongside mowing.

What bed maintenance can include

  • Hand weeding of garden and landscape beds, roots and all
  • Spring clean outs: cutting back dead perennials and clearing winter debris
  • Fall clean outs: removing spent annuals and leaf buildup that smothers plants
  • Bed edge re-cutting for a crisp turf-to-bed line
  • Mulch top-ups and full refreshes (see our mulching and river rock service)
  • Full new-bed installation: layout, cut-in, soil prep, plant placement, and finish mulch

New bed installation, done in the right order

For a new bed we mark the layout against the house lines and sight lines first, cut a clean edge, strip the turf, prep the soil, set plants with their mature size in mind, and finish with mulch at the proper depth kept off the stems. Iowa beds also have to survive freeze-thaw winters, so edging and drainage get decided up front, not patched later.

What moves the price

Bed count and square footage, how overgrown the weeds are, how much material has to be hauled out, and whether we are refreshing mulch or building new. Quotes are free and in person.

Common Questions

Questions we hear a lot.

Do you haul away what you pull out of the beds?

Yes. Weeds, cuttings, and debris from a bed clean out leave with us, so the property is finished when we drive away.

How often should beds be maintained?

Most Cedar Valley beds want a spring clean out, a fall clean out, and at least one mid-season weeding pass. Recurring bed care alongside a mowing schedule keeps them from ever getting away from you.

Can you build a completely new bed?

Yes. Layout, edge cut-in, soil prep, planting, and finish mulch or rock. Tell us the look you want at the quote and we will walk the space with you.
